“Artists Building Community” is a continuing effort supported by the East Tennessee Foundation to incorporate celebration, inspiration and unity in Newport and Cocke County by integrating performance, visual and recorded art into a host of local gatherings. Local and regional artists accomplished in traditional music, Spoken Word, story-telling and crafts are invited to participate in major and minor events in our community. Examples of past productions include Latino music and dance appearance at a festival for farmworker families of migrant HeadStart students, a sing-songwriter entertaining care-givers of Alzheimer's patients, puppeteers engaging children during a Health Fair for the uninsured, and Carpetbag Theater performing artists.
